Teignbridge Human Givens Practice

Psychotherapy and Counselling in south devon & oNLINE

Welcome to the Teignbridge Human Givens Practice

Helping you implement positive change and restoring emotional balance in your life.

Sometimes, we can feel a little stuck, unfocussed, confused or not like our usual self.

Maybe you feel like your emotions are just running the show.

Is this you?

Ask yourself the following questions:

Do you ever wish you felt like your old self again?

Maybe you feel your emotions are taking over, and you can't control them.

Do past events keep popping up in the present, like roadblocks stopping you moving forward.

Maybe you want to make peace with a feeling, emotion, or memory for once and for all.

Do you wish you had a plan that would work for you, at your pace and suited to your unique situation?

Perhaps you've never been listened to before in a place where you feel heard and without judgement?

Have you ever served in the Armed Forces or are a spouse, partner or relative of someone who has?

Do you feel most people you talk to need help understanding military related stresses?

If any of the above questions resonate, then perhaps I could help.

HOW IT WORKS

As humans we all have essential emotional needs that need to be met in balance for us to flourish. When these needs are out of balance, we can suffer a range of physical and emotional symptoms, the most common being stress, anxiety, depression, overwhelm or anger.

I work using the Human Givens approach that provides a highly practical framework for improving emotional health and wellbeing. It is incredibly humbling and a privilege to see clients experience a light bulb moment enabling them to work out their issues and giving them hope for positive change.

Using the most up-to-date psychotherapeutic understanding and techniques, I help clients move forward with their lives as swiftly and effectively as possible. All the techniques used are evidenced based and work with the body and mind’s natural resources and processes. Human Givens is a holistic approach, which incorporates elements of Behavioural, Interpersonal and Cognitive therapies.

Using this approach:

  • Gives us a clear framework of what all human beings need to live mentally healthy and fulfilling lives, based on a solid understanding of the essentials needs and resources we are all born with, whatever our circumstances or cultural background
  • Helps us to identify why a person is experiencing their current difficulties and what can be done about it
  • Provides a practical, holistic way of working that enables therapy to be easily tailored to each individual’s needs
  • Is brief and solution-focused, aiming to help individuals regain control over their lives as quickly as possible
  • The approach doesn’t only look at what’s not working in clients’ lives, it also uses their strengths, skills, and resources to effect self- generated change and helps to build resilience for the future.

ABOUT ME

My name is Ashley Lamb and in an administrative career of nearly 40 years I have always had roles that supported and looked after the welfare and wellbeing of others. The first 24 of those years were spent in the Armed Forces and I have also worked with several Veterans Charities as a Welfare Officer, Peer Mentor or Counsellor. I am particularly interested in the impact of trauma, especially on the female veteran community and while working with one charity set up a programme of wellbeing events and experience days specifically for female veterans. As a Veteran myself, support wasn’t always available when I needed it during my military career.

I have always been interested in social, emotional, and general wellbeing support to others and in addition to my private practice, I also volunteer as a mental health team member for a charity that aims to improve the quality of life of those in need within the Newton Abbot and surrounding community and work with the charity PTSD Resolution.

Ashley Lamb, Counsellor

I obtained my Diploma in Psychotherapy (HG Dip P) from the Human Givens Institute which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA). I am fully insured, hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS clearance and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

When not working I like to get outside either in my garden and veg patch or I will be on one of the rivers or beaches in beautiful South Devon.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It takes great courage to reach out for support, especially when you are feeling anxious, emotional, or overwhelmed. Together, we will work to identify the positive changes and growth opportunities that are most important to you.

We will do this by working to understand and resolve the root of your challenges in order that you can implement positive and lasting change

While every treatment plan is different and is personalised to fit the needs of each client there are many things that I have been asked to help with.

Some of the most common include:

Coping with stress, anxiety, or panic attacks

Managing a phobia, addiction, or OCD

Healing following bereavement, loss, or breakdown of a relationship

Adjusting to life as a Military Veteran including issues relating to PTSD / CPTSD

Dealing with past traumatic events of accident, incident, or sexual violence

For most clients, a very few sessions, often between four and six but sometimes even just one or two, are enough to allow them to make significant changes. Obviously, every situation is different, especially in more complex cases.

Counselling isn’t about giving you solutions or answers; it is about empowering you to make your own choices and implement positive change. My aim will be to help you leave each session feeling more hopeful and for you to begin to feel better and more positive as quickly as possible.

MY LOCATION

I work face-to-face from a tranquil space within the Kingsley House Fitness and Wellbeing Centre in Chudleigh but can also travel to other areas of South Devon if required and agreed.

I also work online using Zoom – so can work with people no matter where they are in the UK or beyond. Zoom works on a laptop or with Android or Apple devices, each session having a unique secure link specifically for you. All you need is a quiet space where you can talk freely, without interruption.

FEES

I offer an introductory telephone call or online meeting for up to 20 minutes that gives us the chance to meet each other. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have and, most importantly, to see if you feel that my approach is right for you. There is no charge for this and no obligation.

Thereafter, each 60-minute session is £50.

There is no commitment to a course of treatment, and you decide at the end of each individual session whether you would like to book another.

PAYMENT & CANCELLATIONS

Payment:

I accept payment in cash or by bank transfer. Payment can be made prior to or on the day of your session.
